Michelle the hound spent 2 years in a cage at a Virginia shelter with no adoption interest, Crash the lab was going to have his eyes blow torched out in a Beijing dog torture house, today they enjoy the sun together. This is smiling, living proof that there are so many dogs in need in this world, that you don’t need to go to a breeder to find a purebred, you can find them anywhere, everywhere, and you can save a life and ease suffering by adopting. I’d put these 2 up against any store bought, mass bred, puppy mill, overpriced purebred pup and they’ve earned it that’s for certain Give a shelter dog some time to adjust, to decompress, to gain trust. It takes a minimum of 3-4 weeks for the transition to settle in, for the
peace of mind that this home is forever to ease into the broken soul. A dog is for life, not for 2-3 days because they cry, pace, pant, have accidents.Treat those that have a broken heart the way you’d like to be treated if you needed help……love wins, patience wins. One month with a shelter dog that spent 2 years in a cage, Michelle is settling in, the easement into a new life is a success, rescue completed, life beginning.❤️
Day 11 of the new life of Michelle, the shelter dog of 2 years. I’ve enjoyed sharing pics of all my dogs restoration and healing over the years, but this one is special because it’s my last adoption for a long time, because it was unexpected, because, like all rescues, it’s heartwarming and carries it’s own unique, beautiful story. I never overwhelm a new dog with affection, I always offer a hand and a soft touch, but I let it develop naturally,on the terms of the dog. There is enough to take in already, a new routine, other dogs, etc. Patience earns trust, and simple everyday activities earn eventual happiness, growth and confidence. That all leads to this…..waking up to the new dog,who only wanted to sleep in her kennel before, waking up to her complete acknowledgement and acceptance that she has her home, her person, that her new life has begun. This is when I know it’s time to hug with emotion, love without boundaries and hold onto the feeling that one more is going to be just fine.Michelle❤️
The eyes speak the words of a dog that can’t believe what has happened to her. Michelle 13 hours and counting of play, running, tug of war, chasing tennis balls, getting chased by her buddies, and taking a break to say hi and let me ask her if she’s happy.
I honestly think she is trying to make up for lost time and I’m enjoying it as much as she is. Dogs make me smile,t hey make me cry, today I’ve done both and once again, I’m glad I said yes. Welcome home Michelle and for the rest of your life you’ll never be let down again.
This is Michelle when she was first in an animal shelter.
